Coming out of our first week of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), it seems like we are beginning to turn this fight around for the better. COVID-19 began to spread seriously after the Tabligh Jam’at event where an estimated 14,500 Malaysians were reported to have attended. As a result of the event and a report by JP Morgan, Malaysian authorities decided on a fast and strong lockdown, named the Movement Control Order (MCO). To combat and keep track of it the Malaysian government took a page out of Korea’s response and started testing everyone.
COVID testing confirms the presence of the virus in your body using genetic techniques. COVID screening is the same test and it’s easily done. The goal of COVID screening is to determine if you have it or not. It simply is the most powerful tool we have in the fight before a vaccine is developed. Should the test come back positive you are at clear and able to work. If you are positive then the proper precautions must be taken. Taking a COVID screening test at any point is beneficial for not just you and your family but also for general public health. This coupled with serological testing can further enhance our knowledge of the dynamics. Keeping track of those who have had the virus and developed an immunity could allow for the country to reopen faster.
